Principles
The International Featured Standards (IFS) are developed for every retailer (all sizes of companies and shops, private owned or franchise etc.) and for wholesalers with similar activities (e.g. cash and carry). They all must ensure the safety of their ‘private branded’ products they sell. IFS helps to comply with all legal safety requirements and gives common and transparent standards to the suppliers concerned as well as an adequate and strong answer to the high safety expectations of customers.
 

Goal
IFS covers common internationally accepted audit standards in order to improve continuously safety for the consumers. The IFS Food standard is approved by the Global Food Safety Initiative; GFSI)
IFS Cash & Carry / Wholesale standard covers all handling activities of loose and unpacked products in Cash & Carry-markets or wholesale companies. It includes also the processing of small amounts of product e.g. minced meat.

The requirements of this standard are the same as IFS Food but in addition a guideline has been developed which describes how to handle specific requirements in Cash & Carry-markets or wholesale companies. Furthermore, multi-site-certification is possible.
