Branch Hygienic Codes

Inspection and Certification of Branch-specific Hygienic Codes of Practice

Along with the development of the Dutch HACCP system certification scheme in 1996, ISACert developed a HACCP certification scheme at the request of small food business operators and their branches, based on the branch-specific hygienic codes authorised by the Dutch government. When this certification scheme was launched in 1997 and accepted by RvA, ISACert received accreditation. Small food operators use these codes to introduce operational working methods into their organisations focused on food safety and hygiene. Moreover the Government Food Safety Inspection Agency uses these codes as part of the EU HACCP legislation introduction as a verification standard to gauge compliance by these operators. There are about 50 branch codes authorised by the Dutch government. Five codes (bakeries, butchers, care sector, hospitality sector and produce handling) are currently used as certification standards.
